Chelsea Manning

Chelsea Elizabeth Manning (Oklahoma, USA,1987) is a former United States Army soldier and intelligence analyst. She was responsible for the largest data leak to WikiLeaks. After three years of provisional imprisonment, the conditions of which were controversial, the Pentagon brought a formal charge against Manning, and a military court sentenced her in August 2013 in the first instance to serve a 35-year prison sentence and her dishonorable discharge from the military.

On January 17, 2017, President Barack Obama, in his final days before leaving the White House, commuted the remainder of Manning’s prison sentence, who was released from prison that same year. On August 22, 2013, one day after her conviction, Manning came out as a transgender woman, and asked to henceforth be called Chelsea.
