
Eduardo López Collazo
Born in Cuba and naturalized Spanish. He graduated from the University of Havana as a Nuclear Physicist and immediately became interested in biomedicine. He obtained his PhD in Pharmacy at the Complutense University and made several stays in important research centers in Germany, the United States and the United Kingdom.
For 25 years he has focused on the study of human defenses in pathological situations such as cancer, metastasis and infectious diseases. In these areas he has made important contributions in high impact scientific publications. He has combined his scientific work with management, first as Coordinator of the Project Commissions of the Health Research Fund (FIS) in the areas of Cancer, HIV and infectious diseases, and then as Scientific Director of the Health Research Institute of the University Hospital La PAZ.
He shares his opinion in the personal blog “Viernes”, the opinion column “Doble Hélice” in Redacción Médica and the English cultural magazine Bachtrack. He has won the award for the 100 best Ideas of the Diario Médico (2005) and the Premio Reflexiones (2018). He has recently published the popular science books What is cancer?, Coronavirus ¿the last pandemic? and What is HIV?
