
Carlos Umaña
Carlos Umaña is the president of IPPNW Costa Rica, the International Physicians for the Prevention of Nuclear War.
Former manager of the Costa Rican Ministry of Health, his professional background as a physician includes work in primary care, as well as obstetrics and gynecology.
In addition to his medical training, he studied Fine Arts at the University of Costa Rica and currently works as a medical translator and visual artist.
Dr. Umaña has also worked in collaboration with different local, regional and global institutions and organizations for nuclear disarmament. Carlos Umaña is also a member of the International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons, for which he received the Nobel Peace Prize in 2017.
