José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero

Spanish politician who served as President of the Government between 2004 and 2011. He has been a member of the Spanish Socialist Workers’ Party (PSOE), and served as its secretary general between 2000 and 2012.

In 2005, he approved the same-sex marriage law, of which he has declared, on numerous occasions, that it is one of the laws he is most proud of, as he believes that in addition to being a “historic advance” it was a necessary reality. Since the approval of this law, homosexual couples could acquire through their union the same rights as heterosexual couples, including adoption.
