Jordi Petit

Jordi Lozano González, was known as Jordi Petit during his years of clandestine struggle. He is one of the first LGBT activists in Spain. He is currently honorary president of the Coordinadora Gai-Lesbiana de Catalunya (CGL).

A militant against the dictatorship, he joined the collective in 1977, when the movement was still illegal. In the 1990s, he became involved in the fight against HIV/AIDS. In 1992 and 1993 he was coordinator of the anti-discrimination campaign “Democracy is Equality”, promoted by eleven large NGOs and the Ministry of Social Affairs, whose shocking TV spot “Insults” was awarded by the United Nations.

He participates in the fight for the civil rights of lesbians and gays and from the Coordinadora Gay-Lesbiana and contributed greatly to the inclusion of homosexual couples in the Urban Leasing Law of 1994, as well as to the punishment of discrimination on grounds of sexual orientation in the Criminal Code of 1995 and the enactment of the first Law of unmarried couples in Spain in Catalonia in 1998.
